A bad poodle-cut as a teen was all it took to inspire Shelley to a career in hairdressing. Opening her first salon in Calgary’s Penny Lane in 1985, Shelley’s career went on to include owning and operating two other successful salons before bringing all her experience home to Marda Loop starting SWISH Salon with David. Shelley loves being a vital part of the community and serves on the board of the Business Revitalization Zone. Shelley’s greatest extravagance is a terrific bottle of wine, but her most treasured possession comes to work on four paws with her every day. But more about Henry later…
Putting the swish in SWISH Salon, it’s Mr. David Stewart. David started working in salons while he was in High School and a few decades later this career stylist still LOVES his work. In the 90s, David lived in San Paolo, Brazil and sharpened his scissors on high-fashion hairstyling for the covers of Brazilian Vogue, Cosmo and ELLE. Returning home to Calgary, David opened his first salon with colleagues in 1994, the very successful, Neo7. Co-founding SWISH with Shelley, David earned his place in the forefront of the Calgary’s hairstyling industry as one of the city’s most sought-after stylists. David admits to indulging on art and shoes as his greatest extravagances, and you can see both proudly on display when you visit.

To our Current and Future Clients of the Salon,
We, at Swish Salon, write this notice with the utmost respect to parents and understand that this can be a sensitive issue. We will be implementing a policy regarding children and their presence in the salon. We feel as a company, children who visit the salon during their parents’ appointments or children who are unattended in the waiting area pose a safety issue. We work in an environment that has sharp scissors, razors, chemicals, and hot curling and flat irons. If something were to happen to your child, it would not only be devastating to you and your family, it would be equally as devastating to us as a company.
We encourage parents to visit the salon without their children unless the child has an appointment. During their appointment, children need to be able to sit still so that the stylist can perform a quality service.
Please understand that our concern is the safety of your child. We write this notice without the intent of offending, and hope that you will aid us in keeping our salon a safe environment. Please contact us if you have concerns or questions about our policy.
