What is Swish?
A verb? – a hissing, rustling, sizzling sound – perhaps…
An adjective? – (British) – chic, elegant, fashionable – definitely!
For us – Swish is hair and Swish is home. Since 2014, SWISH has been our sizzling business in a chicly appointed and lovingly restored heritage home in Marda Loop.
As part of the

Putting the swish in SWISH Salon, it’s Mr. David Stewart. David started working in salons while he was in High School and a few decades later this career stylist still LOVES his work. In the 90s, David lived in San Paolo, Brazil and sharpened his scissors on high-fashion hairstyling for the covers of Brazilian Vogue, Cosmo and ELLE. Returning home to Calgary, David opened his first salon with colleagues in 1994, the very successful, Neo7. As a founder of SWISH in 2014, David earned his place in the forefront of the Calgary’s hairstyling industry as one of the city’s most sought-after stylists. David admits to indulging on art and shoes as his greatest extravagances, and you can see both proudly on display when you visit.
Miranda says that when she said bye-bye to a boring 9-5 job and followed her passion to hairstyling, it was the best decision she ever made, and we’re thrilled to have this stylish David Bowie devotee join us at SWISH. Miranda’s specialty is the “classic bob”, but she’s also got a penchant for colour and men’s barbering. For Miranda, continued education is the foundation to staying on top as a great hairdresser, and she believes that from the top of her bangs to the tip of her greatest extravagance – her nails!
Globe- trotting Malina loves to encourage and educate her clients to pursue their dreams and goals. Hair and otherwise!! Swish’s Asian and short hair specialist, Malina also loves doing PERMS.
After 12 years at one of Calgary’s most high end salons, a life change beckoned, and she indulged her outdoor passions with a move to Australia. Returning to Canada, Malina realized a long held dream of owning her own food truck, Rolls Rice! Now she is back to her first passion “The Hair Whisper”
Lucky for Swish, Cindy chose hair school over art school. Clearly it was a good choice as she celebrates over 30 years of working at top salons in both Calgary and Edmonton, where she has been a stylist, mentor and education leader. Cindy is privileged to offer Le Metric, a hair replacement system for clients who have female pattern hair loss. This she is able to provide in a private, secluded area within our salon. She is also our “de frizz” authority, using the L’asio smoothing system.
Downtime, this married Mom and personal servant to a Bossy Boxer reads and indulges her passion for cooking. Ask her what her favourite recipe is this week!
Saskatchewan transplant Kelly says that if she wasn’t a hairdresser she would be an Event Planner. That attention to detail is more than evident in lucky for us her 20 year career in hairdressing. Complimenting her client features with cuts and colours that are not only beautiful but easy to maintain is a trademark of Kelly’s style. That and her great big laugh! Her off time pursuits of travelling, shopping , forest bathing and reading are all best started with a cup of good Strong coffee.
Swish’s junior stylist, MC hair college class valedictorian is a small town girl proving herself to be “big city”and up and coming member of the Swish team. Her sunny disposition and uncanny ability to remember “everything” makes her one to be admired. Tonjia has a passion for learning with her interests ranging from dreadlocks to hair colour. In Tonjia’s world OCD is a gift, just ask about “the towels’? Her greatest extravagance and well as her signature is her NAILS!!
Cutting her dolls’ hair as a kid was surely a sign that Ashley was destined to involved in the hair industry as an adult. Ashely is our devoted and motivated Cosmetology student and is working through her apprenticeship with the team at Swish. Her enthusiasm for hairdressing brightens our little salon as does her cheerful personality!! She’s always smiling.

We will be implementing a policy regarding children and their presence in the salon. Our top concern is safety and our work environment has sharp scissors, razors, chemicals, and hot curling and flat irons. If something were to happen to your child, it would not only be devastating to you and your family, it would be equally as devastating to us as a company.
